Gift Guide

UI Design

The Problem

When buying gifts for holidays and special occasions, managing the amount of money spent and gifts bought can become stressful when shopping for large numbers of people. I took on the challenge of designing an app that would make this process simpler.

My Process.

Competitor Research.

I began by researching online registry and other gift management apps within the app store, such as GiftPlanner to identify pain points and the overall structure of these types of apps.

Brainstorming.

I determined that the main tasks that this design should facilitate are: adding, viewing, and editing gift lists, importing contacts, setting and managing gift budgets, and sharing gift ideas with friends and family. I created sketches of possible layouts and developed a color scheme that was common for holiday themes.

Design.

I designed my logo to resemble a Christmas gift, so users would easily be able to understand what the app is about. One of my favorite designs is the budget screen, which is inspired by banking apps that uses a bar that allows users to see a visual representation of their gifts bought and money spent.

Sketches

When brainstorming and sketching the design concepts, I looked at the common layouts of shopping apps. I wanted the app to make it easy to organize gift ideas quickly.  I went for a a design that would be simple design.
